Leisure Park
Lowca, Cumbria, UK
2009
The wind swept site overlooks the Irish Sea and lies above the Cumbrian town of Whitehaven and within a few miles of the Lake District National Park. The development feasibility was for a holiday leisure park, which contained some 450 chalets and a central leisure complex set within the 35 hectares of landscape parklands.
The chalet were proposed as a series of modules to cater for differing groups of visitors and holiday guests with a central recreation building which contains swimming and leisure pools, dining outlets and entertainment halls. Outdoor leisure facilities such as golf, tennis court and cycling routes are integrated into the landscaped areas to unify the development into its surrounding and provide screening for vehicles and wind buffers to the prevailing winds.
